Is it that time again? It’s the last day of the month, that means I have been summoned to my little corner of the internet for my (slightly) regular monthly dev log. As always, I’ll discuss what I’ve been up to, what’s new & what’s next. Let’s begin…
Last month I kept things simple. I set a few goals but I was pretty lost, my main goal was figuring out what’s next. You’ll be happy to know, I did just that!
I also wanted some videos out on my YouTube channel. Did I do it? Read on or check my channel for yourself and find out!

Jelly Blob Slime Thingy (working title)
I didn’t have a clue what I wanted to work on next. I have a lot of ideas all the time, some good, some terrible.
The story behind this idea is pretty funny. After a couple of drinks on the weekend, I was trying to explain to one of my friends what I do (gamedev). I thought the best way to do that would be to whip up a quick prototype, it took less than an hour. It’s very buggy and far from perfect but we have this:
I didn’t think much of it, but after about a week, I decided to post it on my socials. What I didn’t expect, people actually seem to like it. This quick prototype I made when I was drunk had more interest than the game I just released… I’m not complaining, I know what my next game is!
It’s only right I complicate things before I start. I knew I wanted to challenge myself in some way, it would be no fun otherwise. That’s where softbody physics come in. It took a while to learn, but bring in the slime jelly thing:
As you can see I also prettied up the background somewhat. Don’t worry it’s not permanent, it looks good but it doesn’t quite fit with the jelly. Plenty to do! The game mechanics need altering, things need to be more efficient and the style of the game needs to be worked on. The goals for March are writing themselves.
Recording & Editing
Last month one of the last things I said was “if only I knew how to edit”. I wanted some videos out, I started recording a couple at the start of the month (then re-recording a few times). But I had no idea how to edit, I tried to work around that by coming up with ideas that didn’t need much but that won’t last, some ideas that almost require it.
So I did a bit of research, found some editing programs, made use of some free trials & got to learning. My favourite editing program so far has to be Premiere Pro. I had fun with it & luckily it’s not my first time using it. However it’s not free, will I continue to use it? Maybe not. My budget of almost zero can’t allow it.
That’s where most of my time this month has been spent. I managed to get my first video out, taking a look at some old files:
I’ve also posted a couple more, you should definitely check out my channel if you haven’t already! Since my goal last month was to only get one or two videos out & I’ve done that I’m pretty happy.
There’s more videos waiting to be uploaded soon, so I’ll take a break and focus on my game now but expect me to come back with better videos soon!
Goals Next Month
Was you not listening? I bet you skipped to the end didn’t you? It’s okay I’ll get straight to the point. This month was videos and planning. Next month I want to get straight back into game development, I’ve been away from code too long, I almost miss it.
I will still be posting videos but I shouldn’t have to record another for at least a week or two depending on how often I upload. That may slow down when the game takes over anyway.
I have an idea now, let’s get my next game out! My plan is to get as close to that goal as I can by next post… I like this idea, let’s see what I can do with it.
Until next time…
